Four former Prime Ministers are set to enter the race in the upcoming House of Representatives election. CPN-UML Chairman and former PM KP Sharma Oli will contest from Jhapa Constituency No. 5. Nepali Communist Party Coordinator and former PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will contest from Rukum East, while the party’s Co-Coordinator and former PM Madhav Kumar Nepal is set to run from Rautahat Constituency No. 1. In the previous general election of 2079, Oli was elected from Jhapa-5, Dahal from Gorkha-2, and Nepal from Rautahat-1. At that time, Dr. Bhattarai had supported Prachanda by vacating his traditional constituency to help the party.
Nepali Congress former Chairman and ex-PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, who had been continuously elected from Dadeldhura since 2048 BS, has not filed his candidacy this time due to circumstances related to the party’s special general convention.
For the upcoming election on Falgun 21, the nomination process for direct elections has begun across all 165 constituencies nationwide, starting Tuesday.
