CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has accused the government of attempting to push Nepal toward political instability.
Basnet claims the government is planning unnecessary arrests of political leaders, which he warns could escalate into further confrontation in the country. He said recent activities and meetings of Prime Minister Sushila Karki indicate such tendencies.
Posting on Facebook, Basnet wrote:
“The government seems to be preparing to recklessly arrest party leaders without reason. Recent meetings and activities of the Prime Minister clearly indicate this.”
Warning of Nationwide Protests
Basnet further stated that under government direction, Sudan Gurung has warned of nationwide protests if former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak are not arrested.
He warned:
“If the country is pushed toward such instability, the situation will be beyond anyone’s control.”
‘Country Cannot Run on Foreign Influence’
Basnet also claimed that the country is currently being influenced by foreign powers. He emphasized that Nepal cannot be governed by abstract forces or external pride, but only by the will and sentiment of its people.
He added:
“If we die, we will be draped in Nepal’s flag. But if you die, it won’t be possible to drape you in the flag of a foreign nation. The country runs on the feelings of its people, not on the designs of some invisible power. Those in power should not forget this.”
Basnet concluded with a strong warning to the government to avoid taking actions that could destabilize the nation.
