Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has summoned close central committee members and senior leaders for discussions following the ongoing Special Convention convened by General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwprakash Sharma, which has seen participation from the majority of party representatives.
This move comes after the Special Convention at Bhrikuti Mandap passed a procedure to dissolve the Deuba-led central committee and select a new leadership. The discussion at Deuba’s Maharajgunj residence is scheduled to start at 3 PM today.
According to leaders from the establishment faction, the discussions are expected to focus on the implications of decisions taken in the convention’s closed session, the party’s future strategy, and the possibility of maintaining unity. Deuba had earlier declared the special convention illegal and described it as an attempt to split the party.
While the special convention faction passed procedures with the participation of the majority of representatives, the establishment faction has so far maintained a “wait and watch” approach.
Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat and other leaders have indicated that they are prepared to take legal and political measures following the decisions of the special convention.
