The special general convention of the Nepali Congress was jointly inaugurated by party General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma. The two leaders inaugurated the convention by watering a sapling, symbolizing growth and renewal.
They also lit traditional oil lamps and garlanded the portrait of BP Koirala. The special general convention was convened at the call of the two general secretaries after circumstances prevented the party from holding its regular general convention on time.
According to the convention organizing committee, the inauguration session was scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., but the program started later than planned. Arrangements were made for eight registration stalls for delegates. Although registration was initially scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m., the process officially started from 9:00 a.m. instead.
