Prime Minister Sushila Karki met with a delegation from the Nepal Tamang Ghedung on Friday morning. During the meeting, discussions focused on the Tamang community’s population, culture, and socio-economic conditions, Press Advisor Ram Bahadur Rawal informed.
The Ghedung informed the Prime Minister about a Tamang Cultural Festival and greeting exchange program planned in Kathmandu on Magh 5 to mark Sonam Lhosar. They requested PM Karki to attend as the chief guest.
The delegation also highlighted that although the Tamang population exceeds 3 million, census errors have recorded only around 1.7 million, drawing the Prime Minister’s attention to the discrepancy.
Prime Minister Karki emphasized that elections are the sole democratic solution for the current situation and called for support from all levels of society. She said, “The country is heading to elections. These elections are not ordinary—they are meant to provide a resolution and lead the nation toward sustainable stability. Let’s keep Bhadra 23 and 24 in mind. Such a situation must not repeat. We must act according to the aspirations of the youth.”
She further stressed that governance should reflect the aspirations of the youth, requiring young and honest leaders, as outdated mindsets and approaches can no longer guide the country effectively.
PM Karki also urged the community to ensure transparency during elections and prevent malpractice. “If we want to end corruption, the election itself must be a means to act against it. Voters must be vigilant. We must discourage the wrong practices that have occurred in past elections,” she stated.
