The faction of the Nepali Congress led by newly elected party president Gagan Thapa from the second special convention is set to visit the Election Commission again. This comes after the Deuba faction went to the Commission earlier, and the Thapa group plans to counter their claims.
On Friday morning, leaders from the Deuba faction had approached the Election Commission. To respond to their claims, the Gagan faction will visit the Commission at 2:00 PM, leader Subash Pokharel informed Makalukhbar. The Election Commission has also summoned the Thapa group for discussions.
The Deuba faction, led by acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, has claimed that 885 delegates who had previously signed in favor of the special convention withdrew their signatures. They have submitted the relevant documents to the Election Commission.
However, the Gagan faction has accused the Deuba group of spreading misinformation. General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire stated that since the leadership was already chosen through the special convention delegates’ signatures, withdrawing signatures now is meaningless.
Ghimire further added that attempts are still being made to undermine the rights of the convention delegates.
