The second Ichchhakamana Orange Festival and Food Festival begins today in Muglin Bazaar. The festival is being jointly organized by the Ichchhakamana Committee of the Chitwan Chamber of Industry and the Ichchhakamana Unit of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Association.
Chairperson of the Chitwan Chamber of Industry, Ichchhakamana Committee, Ramhari Kandel, said the festival has been organized with the belief that it will help attract both domestic and foreign tourists. He informed that the exhibition will feature more than 50 stalls. Around 100 orange-producing farmers from Ichchhakamana will directly benefit by selling their produce at the festival. Organizers believe the event will also contribute to the preservation and promotion of local art, culture, and traditions.
The festival will include interaction programs between orange expert farmers and people’s representatives, orange-eating competitions, and various programs targeted at orange farmers. Kandel expressed confidence that the festival, being held in the Muglin market area, will help promote local products.
Chairperson of Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, Dan Bahadur Gurung, stated that people in the area conduct annual transactions worth approximately NPR 90 million to 100 million through orange production. He added that the oranges produced here are delicious and face no market problems. To protect existing orange orchards and expand cultivation to new areas, the rural municipality distributes saplings every year. Gurung also said that the Orange Festival and Food Festival will help promote the tourism destinations of the area. The festival will continue until Poush 15, with the rural municipality serving as its patron. (RSS)
