One person has died and seven others were injured in a jeep accident in a forest area below Siddhathan, Marsyangdi Rural Municipality–9.
The jeep (Ga 1 Ja 5065) was traveling from Bhujung of Kwholasothar Rural Municipality–4 to district headquarters Besisahar via Mrchegaun when it met with an accident at around 10:00 AM on Wednesday.
According to police, 74-year-old Malkumari Gurung of Bhujung died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Besisahar. Her husband, 80-year-old Aitaram Gurung, is in critical condition. Three of the injured are reported to be in moderate condition, said Police Inspector Abhishek Pandey of the District Police Office.
Those receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital include 50-year-old Kali Gurung, 27-year-old Smriti Gurung, 22-year-old Elina Gurung, 31-year-old Aryan Gurung of Marsyangdi–9, 22-year-old Ritu Gurung of Besisahar–5, and 20-year-old Kripa Gurung.
Police said preparations are underway to refer Aitaram, Kali, Aryan, and Smriti for further treatment.
The accident occurred when the jeep slipped and fell about 50–60 meters off the road while attempting to reverse on a bend in a winding road. The driver has been taken into police custody for investigation.
