A three-day ‘Raithane Khana Mahotsav’ (Indigenous Food Festival) has begun today at Chakhoura, Ward-3 of Dangisharan Rural Municipality in Dang.
The festival is being organized with the support of the Tourism Division Office Kohalpur and in coordination with the Tharu Cultural Conservation Center Chakhoura.
Acting Office Chief Mukti Prasad Pande of the Tourism Division Office Kohalpur said the festival aims to preserve, promote, and develop indigenous cuisines. The event will run until Baisakh 6 and will feature traditional dishes from Tharu, Magar, Gurung, and Newar communities.
Vice Chair Shanta Chaudhary of the Tharu Cultural Conservation Center said the festival has been organized at a time when the traditional food, dress, and customs of the Tharu community are gradually disappearing, making preservation efforts essential. She noted that authentic Tharu dishes will be the main attraction of the festival.
Tharu communities from various parts of Dang as well as from Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Surkhet districts are participating to showcase and sell their traditional foods. In addition, dishes from Newar, Gurung, and Magar communities will also be available, organizers said.
The organizers aim to present more than 100 varieties of indigenous foods. Alongside the cuisine, the festival will feature traditional dances, songs, and cultural performances from different communities.
