The election of chairpersons of parliamentary committees under the Federal Parliament is being held today. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, chairpersons for 10 thematic committees under the House of Representatives and 2 joint committees will be selected during separate meetings of each committee scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Nominations for the committee chairs were registered on Thursday. Two candidates each have filed nominations for the Education Committee and the Joint Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies, and Obligations of the State. In the remaining committees, only a single nomination has been registered for each chair.
Samikshya Baskota has filed her candidacy for the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee; Ashok Chaudhary for the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee; Ashish Gajurel for the Infrastructure Development Committee; Aakriti Awasthi for the Women and Social Affairs Committee; and Hari Dhakal for the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee.
Similarly, Bharat Bahadur Khadka of the Nepali Congress has filed for the Public Accounts Committee; Sumnima Udas for the International Relations and Tourism Committee; Krishna Hari Budhathoki for the Finance Committee; and Rahabar Ansari for the Industry Committee.
Under the joint committees, Bodh Narayan Shrestha has filed his nomination for the Parliamentary Hearing Committee. As there is only a single candidate in these committees, they are set to be elected unopposed.
For the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, Dr. Ojashwi Sherchan of Rastriya Swatantra Party and Guru Baral of CPN-UML have filed nominations. Likewise, for the Joint Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies, and Obligations of the State, Ganesh Karki of Rastriya Swatantra Party and National Assembly member Madan Kumari Shah (Garima) representing CPN have filed their candidacies.
