Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizen Protection Campaign and a businessman, has acknowledged meeting Arzu Rana Deuba and Purna Bahadur Khadka.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday after being released following a habeas corpus order issued by a joint bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Meghraj Pokharel of the Supreme Court of Nepal, Prasai claimed that the photograph with Nepali Congress leader Arzu Rana Deuba currently circulating on social media is old.
He said the viral photo was taken about two to two-and-a-half years ago. “I came to know that my photo with Arzu Rana and Purna Bahadur Khadka was leaked. It wasn’t leaked—it was taken. There’s no need to lie about it; it’s not AI-generated. I met them for personal work. It’s been around two to two-and-a-half years. She also has a school, and I had gone in connection with school-related work. The photo was taken when we met at a leader’s residence. At that time, she was serving as Foreign Minister,” he said.
Prasai urged people not to misinterpret photographs taken with political leaders. “What went wrong if I took a photo with Arzu Deuba two or two-and-a-half years ago? Now they can easily repost it with a new date,” he added.
