Sajha Yatayat has started operating a night bus service in the Kathmandu Valley from today. The service will run from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM and, in the initial phase, will operate with seven electric buses.
From this evening, the first phase of routes will run:
Lagankhel ↔ Budhanilkantha
Thankot ↔ Tribhuvan International Airport
Buses will be available at 20-minute intervals.
South Route (Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha): via Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic, Maternity Hospital, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital, and Teaching Hospital.
Return route: Maharajgunj, Panipokhari, Lazimpat, Jamal, Thapathali to Lagankhel.
East–West Route (Thankot to Airport): via Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Sundhara, New Road, Jamal, Baneshwor to the airport.
Return route: Airport, Tinkune, Minbhawan, Babarmahal, Thapathali to Thankot.
New Road will serve as the main transit point where passengers can change routes.
For passenger safety, each bus will be equipped with four CCTV cameras, and Kathmandu Metropolitan City will deploy one municipal police officer on each bus.
According to Acting Chief Dangol, the service will be evaluated after three months of operation, with plans for improvement and expansion based on its effectiveness. The night bus service is expected to particularly benefit workers, women, and those who work late hours by providing safer and more convenient transportation.
