On the first day of New Year 2083 and the occasion of Baisakh Sankranti, a large number of devotees gathered from early morning at the famous religious pilgrimage site Triveni Dham in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat–Susta West). Following the tradition of beginning the New Year with a holy bath and temple visit, thousands of pilgrims reached Triveni.
From early Tuesday morning, long lines of devotees were seen bathing along the banks of the Narayani River. Heavy crowds were observed at temples and monasteries in the area, especially at Gajendra Moksha Divya Dham and nearby Shiva temples. There is a strong religious belief that bathing at Triveni on Sankranti brings peace and prosperity throughout the year.
Triveni Dham is not only a major spiritual destination for Nepalis but also a center of faith for devotees from neighboring India. On this special day, thousands of pilgrims from the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar arrived at Triveni, strengthening the religious and cultural ties between the two countries.
This “turn of the year” is regarded as an opportunity to make new resolutions. It is believed that Triveni is the confluence of the Tamasa, Swarnabhadra, and Narayani rivers, and that bathing here brings spiritual merit and blessings for ancestors.
The first day of the New Year has once again reinforced Triveni Dham’s status as a hub of religious tourism. Locals say that compared to previous years, the number of devotees has increased even further this year.
