President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, has said that Madhes will be developed into a center of knowledge.
Addressing a manifesto assembly held in Janakpurdham on Wednesday, Thapa stated that Madhes has historically been a hub of knowledge. He recalled that in the past, mathematics and science teachers from Madhes traveled to the hills and mountains to spread the light of education.
Saying that Madhes currently appears weak in the education sector, Thapa emphasized that it is now necessary to rebuild the region as a knowledge center. “We have come to make Madhes a center of knowledge,” he said.
He also stressed the need to strengthen federalism. Thapa said he had come to Madhes with clear plans and determination to safeguard and make federalism functional. “Federalism must be protected and made effective,” he stated. “By placing Madhes Province at the center, we will resolve the problems seen in Nepal’s federal system and prove why Nepal needs federalism.”
He added that his team had conducted studies and that he had arrived in Madhes with plans and commitments based on those findings.
