Ram Chandra Paudel has expressed his best wishes on the occasion of National Democracy Day 2082, hoping that the day will inspire the nation to achieve its goals of sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity. In his message, he paid tribute to all those who contributed to various movements for Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interest, dignity, and democracy. He also expressed heartfelt respect to the known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives in the struggle for the establishment of democracy and acknowledged the pioneers who guided those historic movements.
President Paudel emphasized that it is the shared responsibility of all citizens to ensure the success of the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21, stating that it will help chart the path toward constitutionalism, democracy, good governance, and rapid development as desired by the people. Democracy Day is observed every year on Falgun 7 to commemorate the historic achievement of 2007 BS, when the revolution succeeded against autocratic rule and secured human rights and civil liberties for the people. He noted that this day remains a proud and unforgettable moment in Nepal’s history, as it established the principle that sovereignty rests with the people through their struggle and the sacrifices of martyrs.
Recalling that the 2007 revolution laid an important foundation for the establishment of the Federal Democratic Republic and the drafting of the present constitution made by the people themselves, President Paudel stated that Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the enduring importance of citizens’ rights and the immortal legacy of the martyrs. He also called on everyone to work toward development and prosperity through good governance, which he described as the ultimate objective of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
