A night bus service has been brought into operation inside the Kathmandu Valley to ensure the availability of public transportation at night. The service was launched through the initiative of Kathmandu Metropolitan City in coordination with other local bodies and Sajha Yatayat.
Under the new arrangement, buses will operate from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. With the start of the service, two main routes have been designated to connect major health institutions and important locations across the valley.
Route 1 (North–South): From Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha via Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic Hospital, Maternity Hospital, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital, Teaching Hospital, and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre. The one-way distance of this route is about 16 km.
Route 2 (East–West): From Thankot to Tribhuvan International Airport via Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala, New Baneshwor, Minbhawan, and Tinkune. The one-way distance of this route is about 20 km.
Four electric buses will operate on these two routes, with service available at approximately 20-minute intervals at designated bus stops. Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol was present at the launch of the service.
