The Nepali Congress has started a campaign to update its active membership. Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa initiated the drive by renewing his membership in Ward No. 30 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
The campaign, aimed at renewing active memberships and reorganizing the party, has been named the “Jara Abhiyan” (Roots Campaign). According to Thapa, the initiative is designed to make the organization more systematic, strong, and up to date, and will run until the end of Baisakh.
Under the campaign, active members across the country have been urged to renew and update their memberships on time. However, the party has made it mandatory for members to visit their own wards in person to complete the renewal process.
Party leaders said this rule was introduced because, in the past, others often renewed memberships on behalf of members, which led to a lack of accountability and active involvement. The new provision requires members to be physically present in their respective wards to renew their membership.
The party has described the campaign as an important step toward strengthening organizational discipline and structure. Meanwhile, the Deuba faction has opposed the campaign. Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka from the rival group issued a statement expressing opposition to the initiative.
