A nationwide movement has been announced demanding the release of Durga Prasain. Prasain, who is also the coordinator of the “Save Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens” campaign, has become the focus of the protest, with her secretariat calling for a countrywide strike along with the movement.
In an official statement, Prasain’s secretariat accused the government of arresting her without any concrete basis, claiming that this act undermines citizens’ freedom of speech and democratic rights. “Instead of addressing the legitimate demands raised by our campaign and Prasain, the government has misused state power to imprison her,” the statement read. “Despite our repeated peaceful appeals against this injustice and for her honorable release, the government has ignored us, leaving us compelled to announce strong protest programs.”
According to the statement, an indefinite Nepal bandh (general strike) has been declared starting Falgun 6. The secretariat has called for the full closure of industries, factories, and schools, and announced protests and corner meetings to be held at various locations during the bandh.
