The Election Commission Nepal has sought clarification from the Dang district chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
The Commission issued the clarification notice after receiving information/complaints that RSP cadres allegedly burned the flag of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) in Tulsipur, Dang, and chanted slogans using indecent language against the party’s chairperson during an election-related event.
In its letter, the Commission has asked whether indecent slogans were indeed raised against the UML chairperson during a program organized by the RSP. It has directed the party to submit a written clarification within 24 hours of receiving the letter via the Commission’s official email address.
The Commission has also reminded that burning the flag of any political party and using abusive language or chanting indecent slogans against members of other parties is against the Election Code of Conduct, 2082.
Clause (ṇ) of Section 4 of the Code states that no one shall produce, publish, or broadcast materials in any form that assassinate character, make personal accusations, defame, or contain similar content. Likewise, Clause (ṅ) of Sub-section (1) of Section 13 prohibits disrupting or obstructing rallies, mass meetings, corner assemblies, gatherings, or other programs organized by any political party, candidate, or sister organization.
