Prime Minister Sushila Karki has stated that the Government of Nepal remains fully committed to the protection and promotion of human rights.
Addressing the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva via video message today, she said Nepal continues to work actively toward the effective implementation of human rights through strengthened policy, legal, and institutional mechanisms.
Referring to Nepal’s Constitution, Prime Minister Karki noted that human rights and fundamental freedoms have been established as the cornerstone of democratic governance. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting all categories of human rights.
Reiterating Nepal’s full adherence to the purposes and principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, she said the transitional justice process would be advanced in a transparent, inclusive, credible, and victim-centered manner. Ensuring truth, justice, accountability, and sustainable reconciliation remains the government’s key objective, she added.
Recalling the youth movement held last Bhadra, the Prime Minister said her government’s primary responsibilities include ensuring accountability, taking strict action against corruption, and promoting good governance.
She further informed that all necessary preparations have been completed to conduct the House of Representatives elections scheduled for Falgun 21 in a free, fair, and credible manner, stressing that the government stands firm in upholding democratic values and protecting human rights.
Highlighting Nepal’s high regard for multilateral cooperation and constructive dialogue, Prime Minister Karki expressed readiness to collaborate with member states and partners in promoting and protecting human rights globally.
Emphasizing the shared challenges facing the world today, she called for collective efforts to further strengthen international human rights mechanisms.
