The United Kingdom has announced its largest new sanctions package against Russia since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, aiming to significantly cut Moscow’s critical oil revenues.
The package includes nearly 300 new sanctions targeting Russian energy revenues—particularly oil exports—as well as major suppliers of military equipment that support Russia’s war efforts.
London confirmed that, under its sanctions regime, more than 3,000 individuals, entities, and vessels have already been sanctioned.
The new sanctions were announced alongside British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper’s visit to Kyiv and are designed to strengthen Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself.
The sanctions are especially focused on pipeline companies, through which over 80% of Russian oil exports are transported. This move is expected to further complicate the marketing and distribution of approved Russian crude oil.
According to the UK government, international sanctions have already deprived Moscow of more than $450 billion in revenue, equivalent to funding for an additional two years of Russian military operations in Ukraine.
