Sri Lanka had earlier lost to England cricket team, leaving them winless in Group 2 with zero points after two consecutive defeats. Since winning the T20 World Cup in 2014, Sri Lanka have not reached the semifinals.
With their first win, New Zealand moved to second place in Group 2 with three points and remain in contention for a semifinal spot. England, with four points from two wins, are at the top of the group and have already secured a place in the semifinals.
New Zealand will play their final group match against England tomorrow. A win would guarantee them a semifinal berth. Even if they lose, they could still qualify if Sri Lanka defeat Pakistan in the other match.
Under the World Cup schedule, West Indies cricket team will face South Africa national cricket team this afternoon at 3:15 pm in Ahmedabad, India. In the evening match at 7:15 pm, India national cricket team will take on Zimbabwe national cricket team in Chennai, India.
