Eight people were injured when a Sumo vehicle traveling from Nuwakot to Kathmandu met with an accident on Thursday evening at Kukhure in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-5.
According to Police Inspector Binod Dhakal, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, the vehicle was heading to Kathmandu from Jimtang, Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-4, when the accident occurred. Four of the injured — 50-year-old Samten Lama, 42-year-old Nema Gyamte Lama, 27-year-old Kalpana Tamang, and 43-year-old Phoolmaya Lama — are reported to be in serious condition and have been referred to Kathmandu for further treatment.
Inspector Dhakal said they sustained injuries to the head and chest and were sent to Kathmandu for advanced medical care.
The other injured passengers — Indrakumar Tamang, Rapsagi Tamang, Sushila, and Tek Bahadur Bista — are currently receiving treatment at a district hospital.
Police said the vehicle (Ba Pra 03–001 Ja 777) lost control due to brake failure while descending at Kukhure in Shivapuri-5, leading to the accident. The driver, Ait Lama of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-4, has been taken into custody for investigation.
