Israel has launched military action against Iran and declared a nationwide state of emergency following the strikes.
According to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, the emergency was imposed amid fears of retaliatory attacks from Iran through drones and ballistic missiles. Authorities warned that counterstrikes could target various parts of the country.
International media reported that multiple explosions were heard in downtown Tehran early Saturday morning. Initial reports indicated that missiles struck areas including Daneshgah Street and Jomhuri Street, causing significant blasts.
The Israeli military activated air raid sirens in several locations across the country. Schools have been closed, public gatherings banned, and workplaces—except for essential services—have been shut down.
Israeli officials stated that they carried out the strikes after receiving intelligence indicating that Iran was preparing an attack against Israel. The two countries previously engaged in a 12-day conflict eight months ago.
In June last year, Israel launched a surprise attack targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities, reportedly killing senior military officials and nuclear scientists. In response, Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones toward Israel. At that time, the United States also carried out strikes on underground nuclear sites in Iran and later pushed for a ceasefire.
Hostility between Israel and Iran has persisted for decades, with periodic escalations raising regional and global concerns.
