The country is set to receive a new Prime Minister today. President Ram Chandra Poudel will administer the oath of office and secrecy to senior leader Balen Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party at Shital Niwas this afternoon.
Before the oath ceremony, Shah will be formally informed of his appointment as Prime Minister. A single-party government is being formed in accordance with Article 76 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.
According to the President’s Office, the oath-taking ceremony for the Prime Minister is scheduled for 12:34 PM. Alongside the Prime Minister, members of the Council of Ministers will also take the oath of office and secrecy.
Leaders of various political parties, representatives of diplomatic missions in Nepal, members of civil society, and high-ranking government officials have been invited to attend the ceremony.
In the recent election to the House of Representatives of Nepal held on Falgun 21, the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured victory in 182 seats. The party selected Shah as its parliamentary party leader on Thursday.
Shah was elected from Jhapa Constituency No. 5, securing 68,348 votes. On the same day, senior-most member of the House, Ajurnanarsingh Kesi, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected members of parliament.
