Ram Navami, a festival of deep faith and devotion for Hindu devotees, is being observed across the country today with reverence.
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ram—regarded as a symbol of dignity, righteousness, truth, and ideal conduct—the Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday nationwide.
According to religious belief, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Shri Ram during the Treta Yuga to protect righteousness, eliminate evil, and defeat the unrighteous king Ravana of Lanka. The life of Shri Ram, as described in the Ramayana, is viewed as an unparalleled example of truth, sacrifice, duty, dignity, and justice.
It is believed that Shri Ram was born on this day as the son of King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya. On this day, special worship, recitations of the Ramayana, devotional singing, and religious rituals are organized at Ram temples, Hanuman temples, and various religious sites across the country.
In religious scriptures, Shri Ram is described as Maryada Purushottam (the ideal man). The victory over Ravana is interpreted not merely as a triumph in war, but as the victory of truth, discipline, and righteousness over ego, injustice, and evil.
