Kathmandu — Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has termed his arrest politically motivated and retaliatory, vowing to challenge it through both political and legal means.
Speaking after being arrested from his residence in Katunje, Bhaktapur on Saturday morning, Lekhak said, “I have been detained in a politically biased and vindictive manner. I am ready to fight this battle politically and legally.”
He also criticized the government’s approach, alleging that arrests based on Cabinet decisions undermine the rule of law. “Arresting individuals through a Cabinet decision is a mockery of the legal system. This does not happen anywhere in the world,” he said.
Former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has also described his arrest as an act of political revenge.
However, Home Minister Sudan Gurung defended the move, stating that no one is above the law. In a public statement following the arrests of Oli and Lekhak, he said the action was not driven by revenge but marked “the beginning of justice.”
