Kathmandu — Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has been taken to the Kathmandu District Police Office in his own vehicle following his arrest.
Oli was arrested early Saturday morning from his rented residence in Gundhu, Suryabinayak Municipality–7, Bhaktapur.
The government has ordered his arrest for investigation into his alleged involvement in the deadly Gen-Z protests on Bhadra 23, in which 19 people lost their lives.
Soon after his arrest, Oli termed the move as politically motivated. After police arrived with an arrest warrant, he consulted with legal experts before being taken into custody. “This arrest is vindictive. I will fight this legally—please be prepared,” he told his lawyers.
Oli held consultations with former Attorney General Ramesh Badal and senior advocate Tikaram Bhattarai regarding the case.
