Jammu & Kashmir — At least seven people have died and five others were injured after an avalanche struck near the Zoji La Pass on the Srinagar–Leh Highway, a key route connecting Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to news agency PTI, the avalanche occurred Friday afternoon near the Zero Point and Mini Route sections of the pass. Several vehicles were trapped under the snow.
“The highway is at a high altitude and is frequently used by vehicles,” reported BBC. “At that moment, a massive amount of snow came down, burying several vehicles.”
Authorities are working to rescue stranded travelers and clear the road for safe passage.
