Kathmandu — The student wing of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), staged a protest at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu against the arrest of party chairman K.P. Sharma Oli.
Demanding Oli’s immediate release, ANNFSU members burned tires and demonstrated on Saturday, following directives from the party leadership. The protest was led by student activists affiliated with the UML.
Police had arrested Oli, a former Prime Minister, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak earlier this morning.
The protesters accused the government led by Balen Shah of carrying out the arrests as an act of political revenge and said it was necessary to expose what they called a politically motivated move.
