Kathmandu — The Maitighar area has turned tense after supporters of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) staged protests against the arrest of party chairman K.P. Sharma Oli.
Protesters chanted slogans such as “Release K.P. Oli immediately” and “Down with the Balen government” during the demonstration.
Police had arrested Oli early Saturday morning, prompting 23 affiliated organizations of the UML to jointly organize protests in Maitighar.
The situation escalated after demonstrators attempted to defy restrictions and move toward New Baneshwor. Police then began detaining protesters, leading to heightened tension in the Maitighar area.
