The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued a show-cause order in a habeas corpus petition filed by Yashoda, the wife of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, seeking his release, but has refused to order his release.
The order was issued in the name of the government after a preliminary hearing conducted by Justice Kumar Regmi in a single bench.
With this order, the government will be allowed to keep Lekhak in custody for at least 24 days to investigate and record statements regarding the alleged crackdown during the Jan–Ji movement.
