A meeting of the Nepali Congress Central Disciplinary Committee is scheduled for today following parallel political activities initiated by the factions of former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Shekhar Koirala.
Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal informed that the meeting will be held at 1:00 PM at the party’s central office in Sanepa.
The party took the situation seriously after Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak was arrested last Saturday, following which Purna Bahadur Khadka issued a statement in the capacity of acting party president.
The party has expressed concern as Gagan Thapa was elected as party president through a special general convention, a decision that has also been recognized by the Election Commission Nepal. Despite this, Khadka issued statements as acting president from the Deuba faction, prompting discussions within the party about not renewing his active membership.
On Tuesday, Khadka also called a meeting of the Central Working Committee elected from the party’s 14th General Convention. The party has expressed dissatisfaction after Khadka held programs placing Shekhar Koirala and Shashanka Koirala prominently by his side.
Khadka has also called a gathering of district presidents on Chaitra 19. A party leader stated that all these issues will be discussed in today’s Disciplinary Committee meeting.
