In Surkhet, public transportation has been suspended since Friday morning. Transport operators decided to halt all vehicles departing from the Birendranagar Bus Park, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at the bus park.
Transport operators accused the police of cracking down on public transport workers while leaving privately registered red-plate vehicles unaffected. They claimed that targeting only public transport was unfair.
However, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Jung Budhathoki from Surkhet District Police Office stated that action was taken against those causing unnecessary trouble and inconvenience to passengers.
“We acted because they were unnecessarily harassing and troubling ordinary passengers,” he said. “We will discuss the issues related to the transport suspension further.”
