Kathmandu Metropolitan City has begun preparations to operate a night bus service in coordination with Sajha Yatayat starting from Baisakh 1.
The north–south route will run from Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha, passing through Patan Hospital, Alka Hospital, Norvic Hospital, Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, National Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Children’s Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre. This one-way stretch is approximately 16 kilometers.
The east–west route will operate from Thankot to Tribhuvan International Airport via Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala, Baneshwor, Minbhawan, and Tinkune. This one-way distance is about 20 kilometers.
Four electric buses will be deployed across these two routes for night operations.
Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol said the service is being introduced to address the difficulty and high cost of travel after 8:00 PM, when public transport is largely unavailable. She expressed confidence that the service will particularly benefit women, students, and late-hour commuters by improving safety and affordability.
Buses will run from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, arriving at designated stops every 20 minutes. The buses will be equipped with CCTV cameras, and municipal police will be deployed to ensure passenger safety.
