The habeas corpus petitions filed by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak are scheduled for hearing today at the Supreme Court of Nepal.
Following the Court’s earlier show-cause order, the government has already submitted its written response, sources said. With all required submissions now in place, the petitions of both leaders have been listed on today’s cause list for arguments.
Police had arrested the two on Chaitra 14 in line with the government’s decision to implement the report of the Gauribahadur Karki Commission, formed to investigate incidents related to the Gen Z movement.
Calling their arrest unlawful, both leaders filed separate habeas corpus petitions at the Supreme Court on Chaitra 15. On Chaitra 16, after separate preliminary hearings, the Court issued show-cause orders to the government.
With the government’s written replies now submitted as directed, the case is set to proceed to a full hearing today.
