Seven more Nepali nationals who were lured to Cambodia with promises of jobs in online work and casinos have been rescued and brought back to Nepal. The rescue was carried out with the initiative of the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, in coordination with the Cambodian government.
Facilitated by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Cambodia, the victims returned to Nepal on April 5. They had fallen into the trap of human traffickers and were forced to work illegally in online scam centers and casinos operating in Cambodia.
The embassy stated that efforts are ongoing to rescue other Nepalis stranded in difficult conditions. According to officials, many Nepalis are still being forced into illegal activities such as online fraud, with some overstaying their visas.
Complaints have also increased from victims working in scam centers, who report that their passports are often confiscated by employers or lost while being transferred between locations. To assist those wishing to return home, the embassy has arranged to issue one-way travel documents free of charge.
Amid a growing number of cases involving people traveling on visit visas and falling into trafficking networks, the embassy has issued a warning. It has urged all citizens to obtain proper labor approval as required by the Government of Nepal before seeking foreign employment.
The embassy has also appealed to the public not to be tempted by offers of quick and high earnings, and to avoid traveling to countries like Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand in search of work under false pretenses.
