The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has decided to conduct share trading on Fridays following the government’s move to designate Sunday as a public holiday.
After a Cabinet decision to close all government offices on Sundays to reduce petroleum consumption, NEPSE adjusted its trading schedule to maintain market activity and protect investor interests.
A meeting of NEPSE’s board of directors approved the change to ensure five trading days per week. Under the new arrangement, the stock market will remain closed on Sundays, while trading will now take place regularly on Fridays.
Previously, in 2079 B.S. (2022/23), when the government had implemented public holidays on both Saturday and Sunday, NEPSE had also opened trading on Fridays. After the Sunday holiday was revoked, the market reverted to its old schedule.
With the new system in place, the stock market will now remain closed on both Saturday and Sunday, while operating during the weekdays including Friday.
