World Health Day is being observed across Nepal today with various awareness activities.
The theme for World Health Day 2026 is “Together for Health: Standing with Science.” Marked every year on April 7, the campaign emphasizes trust in scientific evidence, promotion of global cooperation, and the importance of adopting a “One Health” approach to protect the health of people, animals, plants, and the planet.
The day is celebrated annually on April 7 to commemorate the founding of the World Health Organization.
According to the WHO, around 13 million people worldwide die each year due to environmental causes. The organization has highlighted the growing health crisis triggered by climate change. Alongside the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, diseases caused by polluted environments—such as cancer, asthma, and heart disease—remain major global concerns.
The Government of Nepal continues to face challenges in ensuring clean drinking water, sanitation, food safety, a healthy environment, and equal access to affordable healthcare services for all citizens.
In recent years, a rising number of people have been affected by depression. Medical experts stress that addressing poverty and unemployment is essential to reducing mental health issues.
