Three students were burned to death after two motorcycles collided and caught fire at Bathanaha village along the Jaleshwar–Bardibas road section in Mahottari District on Tuesday. Three others were seriously injured in the incident.
Police suspect the fire broke out after the motorcycles crashed into each other about 200 meters north of Bakhari Chowk in Ekdara Rural Municipality–5.
According to police, the deceased students were riding the motorcycles at the time of the collision. The victims have been identified as Subhash Das and Ravi Das of Jaleshwar Municipality–6, and Abhishek Mandal of Ajmarpatti, Ekdara Rural Municipality–3.
The injured have been identified as Ajay Kapar and Abhay Kapar of Dhobauli, Jaleshwar–6, and Rohit Das of Bathanaha, Ekdara–5. Police said there were six people in total, three on each motorcycle. The deceased were reportedly returning home after appearing for their SEE examinations.
The injured were rescued by locals and police and taken to hospital for treatment. Ajay Kapar is receiving treatment at Provincial Hospital Janakpurdham, while the other two are being treated at Ram Janaki Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the provincial hospital in Jaleshwar for postmortem.
