Police have released YouTuber Roshan Pokharel, who was arrested for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Balen Shah.
Pokharel was taken into custody from Phalgunanda Rural Municipality in Panchthar on charges of verbally abusing the Prime Minister. Police had obtained a 10-day remand extension from the Panchthar District Court to continue the investigation.
However, the arrest drew widespread criticism, with many questioning the detention solely on the basis of verbal criticism. As public pressure mounted against the government’s action, Pokharel was released.
According to police, he has been released into the care of his grandmother.
