Nepali Congress leader Purna Bahadur Khadka has stated that no one can revoke the party’s active membership through any means other than the provisions set by the party’s General Convention.
Issuing a statement on Monday in his capacity as Acting President, Khadka emphasized that the active membership of the Nepali Congress is not merely proof of an individual’s party affiliation, but also a testament to their historical contribution and continuity within the party.
He said that while an internal party dispute is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court of Nepal, it is ill-intentioned for one side to unilaterally announce a General Convention.
Khadka clarified that the schedule for the party’s 15th General Convention, set to be held in Kathmandu from Baisakh 28 to 31, 2083 (mid-May 2026), has already been finalized. He argued that it is wrong to claim that active memberships renewed and distributed within the timeline of this schedule have been canceled and that only those who update their membership again will be allowed to participate in the convention.
Earlier, General Secretary Pradeep Paudel had issued a clarification stating that there was no intention to revoke existing active memberships. In recent days, discussions had surfaced within the party regarding the possibility of canceling old active memberships and issuing new ones.
