Vehicular movement along the BP Highway has been obstructed after Saturday afternoon’s rainfall caused flooding in the Rosi River.
According to the District Police Office Kavrepalanchok, the flood swept away diversion roads at several points along the highway, halting transportation.
Police Deputy Superintendent Rabin Bista said the flood damaged diversion sections at Charsebesi, Ghumaune, Daunne, and Narkel, and also washed away the hume pipes placed in the river for vehicle crossings, forcing a complete traffic shutdown.
Efforts are underway to reopen the road. Two JCBs are working at Ghumaune and one at Charsebesi to rebuild the diversions. Police reported that vehicles have been halted at Mangaltar, Bhakunde, and Kavrebhanjyang since midnight on Saturday after the river swelled. It is estimated that traffic may not resume until around 11 AM to 12 PM as reconstruction continues.
Last year, floods in the second week of Asoj damaged about 28 kilometers of the road from Bhakunde to Nepalthok. Reconstruction of the damaged stretch is currently underway through four contracts on the Kavrepalanchok side and one on the Sindhuli side.
