Leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) have emphasized that the House of Representatives election must be held on the scheduled date.
Speaking at a Unity Message Assembly held in Baglung district headquarters on Saturday, the leaders warned that public trust in the current government would decline if the election scheduled for Falgun 21 fails to take place.
CPN leader and former Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal said the current government’s sole mandate is to conduct the election and urged it to focus entirely on that responsibility. She stated that the election must be held on Falgun 21 and that the government should ensure a free, fair, and fear-free environment. Bhusal added that after the Gen-Z protests, there is no alternative to elections to move the country forward with a renewed public mandate, stressing that elections are essential for the protection of the constitution and democracy.
She noted that as most political parties have decided to participate, the election environment is gradually taking shape, and called for cooperation among all progressive and democratic forces to safeguard national sovereignty. Bhusal also said that the Communist Party of Nepal plans to field 50 percent youth candidates in the upcoming election.
Former Education Minister and CPN leader Devendra Paudel said that the government formed after the election would address the demands raised by the Gen-Z generation. He stated that his party is fully prepared to participate in the election and will contest independently.
Similarly, CPN leader Dil Kumari Pant warned that failure to hold the election on time could create further complications and said the party would support the government to ensure the successful conduct of the election.
