A fraud case has been filed against former secretary Arjun Kumar Karki, two other individuals, and a company over alleged irregularities in leasing land owned by the Nepal Trust in Durbarmarg. The Kathmandu District Government Attorney’s Office registered the case on Wednesday at the Kathmandu District Court, seeking recovery of NPR 388.45 million from the company involved. According to court information officer Deepak Shrestha, the defendants include then Nepal Trust Secretary Arjun Kumar Karki, Joint Secretary Lekh Bahadur Karki, Lyakya Sonam Sherpa, and Thamserku Company. Under existing law, the fraud charge carries provisions for recovery of the claimed amount, a fine of up to NPR 5,000 if recovery is not made, and imprisonment of up to five years.
