The chips from electronic voting machines used to elect the new leadership of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) at its 11th National General Convention have been extracted.
According to the convention secretariat, chips are currently being taken out from all 80 electronic voting machines used in the election, and signatures are being collected on the official records (muchulka). Separate records are being prepared for each machine and will later be consolidated.
The Election Commission has stated that vote counting and result publication will begin shortly after meetings of the Election Committee and an all-party mechanism. The results will be made public after completing the necessary procedural formalities.
In the voting that began on Wednesday morning, 2,227 out of 2,263 convention delegates cast their votes, while 36 delegates were absent.
The election witnessed competition between the panels led by KP Sharma Oli and Ishwar Pokhrel. For the post of General Secretary, Shankar Pokhrel is the candidate from the Oli panel, while Surendra Pandey is contesting from the Pokhrel panel.
KP Sharma Oli was previously elected party chairperson in both the 9th and 10th national general conventions.
