Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav is set to seek a vote of confidence today. The Provincial Assembly Secretariat has informed that SMS notices have already been sent to lawmakers, requesting their presence at the assembly meeting for the confidence vote.
The Provincial Assembly meeting has been scheduled for Friday at 4:00 PM to facilitate the vote of confidence. Chief Minister Yadav had formally written to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday, requesting that the meeting be convened for this purpose.
According to the Constitution, a chief minister must obtain a vote of confidence within 30 days of appointment. Yadav was appointed Chief Minister on Mangsir 19 with the support of 77 provincial assembly members from seven political parties, in his capacity as the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress.
Meanwhile, the election for the Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly has been scheduled for Poush 6. Acting Speaker Babita Raut Ishar informed the assembly that the election date has been fixed, stating that the process has moved forward in accordance with Rule 7 of the Provincial Assembly Rules of Procedure, 2075, as the Speaker’s post remains vacant.
