Interim Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun has said that promoting yoga and meditation in society can help in reducing corruption. Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of World Meditation Day, Minister Pun emphasized the growing need to purify the mind in today’s society.
He stated that when the mind is not pure, greed, desire, and ego increase, which eventually become the basis of corruption. “The mind of a corrupt person is filled with ego, greed, and temptation. These cannot be eliminated by medicine, but yoga and meditation can purify the mind and help reduce corruption,” he said.
Minister Pun stressed that collective efforts are needed to take yoga and meditation to villages across the country. He also informed that he has already instructed schools to promote yoga and meditation as extracurricular activities. According to him, yoga is not a subject to be taught theoretically but a practice to be performed. He suggested that Fridays in schools should be observed as days for extracurricular activities rather than regular academic classes.
He further said that yoga and meditation alone can bring peace and purity to an individual’s mind, which can ultimately lead to positive changes in society.
