The meeting of the Public Accounts Committee under the House of Representatives was postponed today due to a lack of quorum. According to committee secretary Ekram Giri, only 12 lawmakers were present, whereas the committee has a total of 26 members. With the required number of members not met, the meeting was deferred until further notice.
As per Rule 182 of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2079 BS, a quorum requires the presence of 51 percent of the current members.
Today’s agenda was to discuss a complaint filed regarding the load-bearing capacity of trucks. The Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs’ Federation had lodged the complaint, stating that the existing legal provisions on cargo vehicle load limits were not being implemented or regulated effectively.
The complaint argued that operating trucks with loads exceeding the standards set in the Cargo Vehicle Load Capacity Directive, 2074 BS, was damaging bridges and roads and increasing the risk of accidents.
