The Nepali Congress Lumbini Province Committee has forwarded all names recommended by districts for House of Representatives and National Assembly candidates to the party’s central committee.
Since consensus could not be reached on the recommended candidates for the House of Representatives, the provincial committee sent all names to the center without selecting specific candidates from each district. The Congress had directed that three names per constituency be recommended with priorities, but the provincial committee forwarded all names along with separate opinions on candidates who have contributed to the party and have winning potential.
According to the provincial committee, six names, including Bal Krishna Khan, were recommended from Rupandehi-3. Co-General Secretary Kishor Singh Rathore’s name was recommended from both Banke-3 and Bardiya-2. In total, nine names, including Rathore and Arju Rana, were sent from Bardiya-2. Devendra Raj Kandel was recommended from West Nawalparasi-2, and Bharat Shah from Rupandehi-5. Due to disputes over Shah’s name, Rupandehi-5’s district committee submitted three names, including youth leader Vishnu Pokhrel, separately to the center. From Gulmi-1, seven names, including Chandra Bhandari, were recommended.
In total, for 26 House of Representatives seats and three National Assembly seats in Lumbini Province, the provincial committee submitted 243 names to the central committee. Of these, 21 names from two constituencies in Gulmi and three names from Rupandehi-5 were sent separately.
According to Lumbini Province Chairperson Amarsingh Pun, candidate lists from 11 of the 12 districts that submitted names through constituencies and districts have been forwarded. Gulmi could not submit its recommendations within the deadline, so its candidates’ names were sent separately.
The provincial committee forwarded 139 names for the House of Representatives, 104 for the National Assembly, and 186 for proportional representation to the central committee. Since districts and constituencies could not shortlist candidates according to party criteria, all names were sent without pruning. Separate opinions on candidates with notable contributions and electoral potential were also included.
Lumbini Province has 26 constituencies for the House of Representatives. Except for Gulmi, 139 names from 11 districts were recommended. Gulmi-1 contributed seven names, and Gulmi-2 fourteen names separately. For three National Assembly seats, 104 names were forwarded, while 186 names were sent for proportional representation, according to Chairperson Pun.
